blackhorn 209 powder

blackhorn 209 powder is a low residue, high performance propellant for muzzleloaders and black powder cartridges that consistently shoots at higher velocities and with greater accuracy than all other muzzleloader powders.

Canadian bull using 110 grains of  209 Powder. He officially scores 222 7/8 net B&C and beats the #3 muzzleloader Canada moose by over 22 inches!

BH209 powder  muzzleloading propellant  is the first and only noncorrosive propellant made for muzzleloaders and black powder cartridges. It is engineered to consistently shoots at higher velocities and with greater accuracy than any other muzzleloader powder available today. In fact, if you compare the benefits of BH 209, you will quickly see there are 10 areas where BH 209 simply smokes the competition: Superior Ballistics and Unbeatable Accuracy Noncorrosive and Low Residue No Swabbing Between Shots Easy Breech Plug Removal No Special Primers Required Not Affected by Temperature or Humidity Uniform Size – “Good to the last shot” Immediate Cleaning Not Necessary Cleans with Regular Solvents. It’s noncorrosive and low residue characteristics allows easy breech plug removal. No special primers are required either.

Are you fed up with the false claims of our competitors? They promise “low hassle and high performance” – yet shooters are still missing too many targets and spending more time cleaning their guns than shooting them! These other muzzleloading powder manufacturers have been claiming superiority and then delivering mediocrity for far too long. If you compare the data side-by-side, you’ll clearly see why Blackhorn 209 is undeniably the best powder in muzzleloading!

My T/C Bone collector 50 cal loves this stuff! I constantly shoot 1 inch groups with Blackhorn powder and TMZ spitfire sabots!

  2. Brice

After purchasing my CVA Optima, I got 777 Pellets and starting shooting. After 3 shots, I couldn’t get my sabots seated to the same point. Upon inspection I found a nasty crud ring in the powder area of the barrel. After cleaning and firing 2 shots, again the third sabot wouldn’t seat to the same point. In that moment, I began searching for alternatives.

Forward to a few weeks ago and I started using Blackhorn 209. In review after review, I saw many people say that once I went to Blackhorn, I won’t go back. I can understand why now. The ability to load round after round while target shooting has been a big help for selecting bullet type and weight as well as charge volume.

I am now settled on 84 grains (by weight) of 209 and Hornady Monoflex 250gr bullets.

    Great product

    Good stuff !!
Started using it 5 years ago and never regretted it. Consistent muzzle velocity and accuracy second to none. Clean up a breeze with wd40 and several patches. I have took 7 deer using black horn 209 from 30 to 150 yards . The farthest one ran was 40 yards the others 1 to 5 feet. Amazing stuff.

I switched to BLACKHORN 209 a year ago and I am glad I did. I was a little skeptical about all the claims the manufacturer made about this powder but after using it for a year they are all true. Much easier to clean and better performance and I can achieve the same velocity with less powder which offsets the added cost of 209.

O I have read the reviews and see that most negative reviews suggest the powder only works well for a short time. I have had the same container of powder for nearly 5 years. Still performs like the day I made the initial purchase. However, the characteristic that make it perform so well (increased surface area to volume ratio) would also make this powder more susceptible to absorbing moisture. If you are in a humid or wet environment and leave the powder exposed to the elements (on the shelf or in the gun), you will have problems. Hence the phrase–Keep you powder dry. I love this powder and it shoots better than any other powder I have tried in my guns.

I have tried using all the pellets, without success. Tested Blackhorn 209, in my TC Omega rifle. Weighed powder (84 gr.) using powder scale, used CCI 209M shotgun primers, and Hornady SST 250 gr. Sabot bullets. Achieved 2,120 FPS. at muzzle, with sub 1” groups at 100 yds.

  8. Paul

Switched to BH 209 from Pyrodex pellets due to hunt regulations in Colorado. At 110 yds with 110 grains by volume of BH 209, I got 1.5″ groups with open sights. With 100 grains, 4″ groups. With 90 grains, 2.5″ groups. All with open sights at 110 yards. Nothing beats testing your loads to build confidence in your equipment. The PowerBelt Platinums could not handle the velocity impact into my sand berm with the 110 and 100 grain BH. They shed too much
lead and came apart. With 90 grains BH, the bullets showed perfect mushrooms and held their weight and gave acceptable accuracy with open sights.

I bought this about a month ago since a couple friends recommended it and it gets good reviews. I bought an online muzzleloader and was on target at 100yds in 4 shots and ended up with a 1.75″ group at 100. I was shooting Barnes TEZ 250gr projectiles and Remington 209 primers. I only had a front rest so I know it can group better. I weighed 70gr of powder and didn’t need to mess with the load. It’s my first muzzleloader and I’m enjoying it. Powder burns clean. I didn’t swab the barrel between shots and the breech plug came out fairly clean.

I bought 5 bottles of this powder for a Uberti 45-75WCF it works great with no pressure
signs at all. No blow by on case necks either. I used reformed 50-90 sharps cases formed to 45-75 using RCBS die set. 350gr bullet and 42grs of BH209 1450fps was exactly what I was wanting to achieve. Almost no fouling whatsoever in barrel, recoil was almost like a 22 rifle. My son shot 6 rounds and was amazed at how little recoil there was. I love this stuff!!
